8" French Type All Bisque Sensational Mulatto
There is obviously a reason that Genevieve Angione, in her classic book considered to be the bible on All Bisque dolls, called "All Bisque and Half-Bisque Dolls," thought this All Bisque Mulatto doll to be so superb and important, that she not only gave her a color page, besides donating several comparison studies on other examples, but as well, placed her in the center on the COVER of her book, and incidentally, the only doll to be dressed. The doll she pictured was out of the iconic Strong collection.
So to start, her ensemble is glorious! This particular phenomenal example has more jewelry, in the form of wonderful golden balls------- sprinkled generously around her hat, several forming cluster earrings hanging from her hair on both sides of her ears, also in the form of a double necklace, and even hanging from the arms of her dress! One might say, she is indeed covered in "bling"! She has several layers, everything matches, from underwear to dress to hat to scarf, and is ALL ORIGINAL.
Her bisque is fabulous! Light mocha baked-in bisque, perfectly even and smooth, swivel neck, and an important French-type neck loop, which is also pointed out in Angione's book, to be significant because "these required more expensive molds and better finishing......" So being the sign of a much more expensive doll to make and part of the reason this doll is SO rarely found today, especially in this condition!
Her features are "ethnic" with CLOSED voluptuous lips in a phenomenal pale tangerine color, VERY chic! Sometimes brown or black dolls have their lips painted too darkly and this is NOT the case with our beauty! They are just fabulous! Also wonderfully modeled is her nose----quite wide with fantastic attention paid to the detailing to emphasize these fuller features around the nose and mouth. Gorgeous golden brown sleep eyes with carved lower lids, upper and lower finely painted lashes and multi-stroke brows. Her dark mohair wig is original and in wonderful condition as well.
Her body matches her head exactly, is superbly molded with detail paid to musculature and the shaping of knees and calves, is completely jointed and she has BARE FEET! All the limbs are marked as is the back of the headAnd her leather shoes are positively marvelous!!
The only other thing to add is that she carries her own all bisque Mulatto baby!
