Simon and Halbig character 151 boy
This already superb example of the Simon Halbig 151 character is made even more fantastic and desirable by the incredibly superior large size of 23" . He has rare brown eyes as well! Made in the early 1900's in Germany.
His sculpting and painting is not just superior but actually amazing! Very crisp, and to use that expression that is quoted WAY too frequently but it truly does define him, so I seem to have no better choice------ "first out of the mold". His bisque is pure and clean, as well as being pale with just the right amount of blushing to his cheeks. ALL the details and nuances that one looks for are most certainly apparent and perfectly accomplished. Details like those wonderful deep dimples and that marvelous deeply cut open-closed smile with The "bags" under those crisply and perfectly painted individual teeth! Just because THIS doll, and his sister ARE painted like this, does NOT mean that every one is painted like this! Feel free to compare and you will see for yourself!!! The "bags" under his eyes, the deeply cut accent lines on the sides of his mouth, the dimple in that very significant chin! Again, ALL of these details are sculpted to perfection in this child and in the face of his sister, both of these examples are incredible.
He is on a completely jointed composition body in excellent condition. To start with the "basics," he retains his original one piece underwear, totally charming! Then he is fortunate enough to be bedecked in the MOST WONDERFUL red wool and black outfit, comprised of a red wool long puffy sleeved jacket, ornamented with several black velvet stripes horizontally surrounding the sleeves. As well, there are 3 black velvet vertical stripes of varying widths that run down the front of his jacket on either side of beautifully embossed flowered brass buttons that further enhance it. The jacket is completed and further contrasted by a black silk collar, large black silk velvet "cut-out" long bows, and the back is as artistic as the front with a split double- collar which is long and double- pointed. Very dramatic! The pants are also black heavy silk, and he sports a jaunty black silk tam with red silk tassel, original black stockings with his beautiful black leather shoes, and retains his original "boy's cut" thick blonde mohair wig. This is a stupendous, VERY choice character!
