CHOICE FRENCH FASHION ETUI
This very rare French fashion sewing accessory known as an "etui" is a mere 1.5" long and 1" at it's widest point and yet houses an ivory awl, ivory needle case, silver thimble, and silver working scissors! Fabulous!
The case is designed in hard dark green leather, further lined in silk, with specific places for the four pieces. The entire circumference of the top of the box is beautifully painted first with a thin gold outline, and then with a heavier outline crossing onto it. Then in the center, is an intricate gorgeous design also hand painted in gold.
The box is kept locked to secure the contents with the use of a gold "lobster claw" closure completely intact. The bottom of the box is finished off in a brown color leather. This fabulous and very desirable early accessory, circa 1800. is in mint condition.
