This superb creation is a wonderful early (1800's) Louis the XV style Tulip wood amboyna and ormolu mounted "bonheur du jour" (which is simply the French translation of "little desk"), with a slant front that encloses a marvelous fitted interior which is divided up into a large "shelf" over-laying three more sections beneath it. All of these sections are decorated with gold "bead-like" ormolu and the inside of the slant lid, is covered in a stunning plush velvet material.
The desk has a working drawer, decorated with a beautiful handle, cabriole legs that have foliate mounts throughout, BUT, one of the most fascinating parts of this exquisite piece has got to be the ormolu moldings of a man's face on the front legs! It is just SO amazing! I hope the picture I have taken captures his essence!
Decorating the top of the slant top, it is further enhanced with exquisite ormolu in fanciful twists and turns, flowers and leaves, etc in a square design that completely encompasses the entire lid, as well as having the gallery completely surrounded with a gorgeous stand up "fence" of ormolu.
This desk is amazingly carved and embellished to perfection. I cannot imagine a more sublime piece to go with your most prized and beloved doll.
