Magnificent French Box
This box measures 31/4" wide by 2" high. It is in fantastic condition, especially considering it is circa early 1800's, and is covered with heavy paper on all sides. This box contains a mirror on the inside of the top, which is then trimmed with paper lace. On the bottom part of the trunk, there is a phenomenal hand sketched and painted portrait of a woman wearing an elegant gown including elbow length gloves, a necklace of daisies, which are also one of the flowers intertwined throughout her hair, AND the same flower used for her earrings as well. (apparently the artist is quite fond of daisies). Her hair also contains several other types of divine flowers in glorious colors, and her hairdo is positively remarkable!
This stunning piece of artwork is protected by glass, and that is finished off by matching paper lace trimming as is accomplished in the lid. There are silk ribbon hinges on either side attaching the lid to the base of the trunk.
This piece is extraordinary and astonishing is so many ways. It's very existence is magical, but i's existence in this condition is a bit of a miracle!
