This 12" character inscribed: "Siegfried/Made in Germany/272/9" is not signed with the mark of a specific factory, as is the case in many other rare characters. However, research attributes it to the firm of Kestner. Not surprising with it’s magnificent quality of flawless and pale creamy bisque, and depth and creativity of modeling. This is an EXTREMELY elusive character baby, on a fully jointed five piece composition body. Further adding to it’s rarity is the fact that when one is fortunate enough to discover "Siegfried", it is with a "flange" neck. THIS example has a completely strung socket head, therefore even more of a Fantastic and elusive find!
The expression on Siegfried's face is Such an extraordinary paradox, as it is truly a mix of emotions! He displays an obvious sweetness yet you would never say he is a happy baby! And although he is most certainly an infant, his face seems to display an intelligence found much more often in an older child.
The attention to details is beautifully accomplished By the artist!. The crisp modeling above and below his eyes, including those deep "lines" and "bags," the puffiness under his lips, his fat cheeks, and the absolutely perfect painting of his lips all attest to this. His eyebrows are the palest possible feathery soft "smudges" and his eyelashes are perfectly painted upper and lower, highlighting golden brown sleep eyes.
He is dressed in a beautiful original long gown with matching full length slip, in excellent condition with no rips or stains, trimmed with laces on the sleeves, hem, and collar, with fabulous pink needle-worked designs to the front of the gown, and the addition of a diaper, and wonderful intricately knit ivory booties that tie.
He is positively gorgeous and just so rare and choice! If you have been neglecting the adoption of a baby, waiting for a superb example, now is your chance!
