Enchanting and Rare GLASS EYED REMOVABLE BONNET Heubach Baby Stuart
There can be no doubt that this face IS the quintessential baby face! It's almost ethereal, no, it IS ethereal, and sets the standard for what every doll collector would be drawn to, if asked what features and qualities he would like to see! It's difficult to imagine the concentration and creativity that had to blend to bring forth this superb piece of delightful art! PLUS, the magnificent addition of a REMOVABLE BISQUE BONNET, created a piece SO ULTRA-RARE and unique!
As well, can you fathom the challenge this must have presented to the mother?!. Imagine trying to keep a child from constantly wanting to remove the bonnet and put it back on! Considering both the head and the bonnet are made of bisque, the chances of these pieces surviving the past hundred years in pristine condition are more than just a little extraordinary. SO few of these dolls have actually been preserved because of the delicacy of the bisque bonnets, and the care that must be taken when removing and replacing it. But of course now, WE are collectors, and would never allow our children to "play" with the few that exist today, until they understand the art and history they hold in their hands. So hopefully, these few remaining examples will exist for THEIR children!
Everything about this stunning character baby made by Gebruder Heubach draws us to her. Her bisque is VERY pale and "soft" looking, almost translucent, with just a perfect amount of blushing to her cheeks. Her blue sleep eyes are absolutely "dreamy" and her closed mouth is perfectly and precisely painted. Of course the purpose of the removable bonnet was to allow the artist easy access when placing in the mechanism for the sleep eyes. But it transformed her into SO much more! With this new innovation, she became much more of a workable piece of sculpture, rather than just a doll!
Bits and pieces of the original bows and ties are there but have been strengthened by replaced silk ones. Her gown is SO fabulous, antique pale pink and white silk with hand embroidered tiny flowers and leaves and lace inserts. It's mesmerizing. She is, of course, on the original and appropriate composition jointed baby body, and measures 12". She is absolutely beautiful and perfect.
