CHOICE HERTEL AND SCHWAB 149 STUNNING CHARACTER
This is an 18" truly magnificent German character made by the firm of Hertel and Schwab at the turn of the century. Their "art series" or TRUE "character" dolls encompassed VERY few molds. But those they did sculpt, were truly fabulous! Given that there were so few of these examples to begin with, (definitely not what one would consider "mass produced)," they are extremely rare to find, and quite desirable. As well, when they are found, they are almost always found in small sizes. So this example, 18" tall, in original clothes and in pristine condition is a phenomenal "find" and extremely choice.
This truly spectacular doll has crisp molding and perfection of painting. Gorgeous pale blue sleep eyes, flawless pale and creamy bisque, and a dazzling VERY full closed mouth outlined with a darker accent line and inner accent line as well, painted in the most stunning color! Upper and lower long and flirty lashes and those FABULOUS wispy "fly-a-way" eyebrows! Just the right blushing to her cheeks with no rubs, or black specks. She retains her fantastic very long and very thick original palest blonde mohair wig over original pate.
She is on a fully jointed composition body in excellent condition, with each nail defined by outlining. Her ornate pale yellow silk and very fine wool sailor outfit is perfect with her coloring, and the outfit itself if absolutely BEYOND spectacular! The intricate details such as the silk hand embroidered cuffs, the over-sized silk bow, ALL of that pleating and tucking on the entire dress, the wide silk ribbon encircling the low waist, the tiny buttons, and that COLLAR with the amazing tiers of ornate hand sewn embellishments finished off with ALL of those tiny pleats, all in perfect condition! Then topped off with that stunning hat also trimmed with pleats and tucks and hand sewn ruching all done in silk thread. This superb monochromatic ensemble is finished off with matching shoes! Unbelievable----but true! White leather with pale yellow silk soutache stitching, and punched out designs and original ties. Even the shoes are superb!
